I've been posting most of my works on tumblr and keep meaning to make this more like a journal-y blog rather than an art blog but there's nothing interesting happening in my life so I have nothing to write about OTL

There are a few more-exciting things happening very soon though so I hope to write about that soon! The hetalia postcards have been printed and should be arriving via UPS sometime tomorrow (today) so I am psyched to take photos of them or possibly cry if they turned out terribly, among other things.

I posted this for a tumblr meme going around a few days back, where you draw yourself and what's usually in your purse/bag/backpack. I think I did an awesome job on it lolol

Some people asked me how the hell my pencil bag actually worked so I took pictures of it:

It's actually a bag for holding lunchboxes but it was perfect for my uses and has a plus-side over regular pencil cases.... I CAN THROW IT IN WITH MY LAUNDRY TO CLEAN

An analogy I like to use when it comes to being frustrated with art and not being anything close to what you aspire to be is like falling in love with a dress that doesn't suit you and doesn't fit.

It's the worst feeling in the entire universe when that is the only thing you want and the only thing you can't fit into. I guess this goes for a lot of things that are hard to change, like your hand-writing or whatever, but I don't really care about how my handwriting looks in comparison to someone else's.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I hate sudden attitude changes toward drawing (read: art emo) because it always hits harder than it should.

Man I really wish change and changing aren't as hard as they are.
Superficial change is easy but that's not what I'm after =_=
I know how I am but I want to change because I feel like I could be better if I was different, but where does a person even start to change things about themselves that they can't even control?? LIKE MY TEMPER /turns into shizuo

I knew someone in high school who didn't seem to have a "self" so she just changed into whatever her surroundings and the people she wanted to be associated with were like. There were lots of us who were confused and lost and all that teenage crap when we were in high school but I think we all had selves, except for her. I'm not in touch with her anymore but from what I hear, she's still sort of all over the place, without a real personality or real interests or real anything.

So when I think about her I sort of think, at least I sort of know where I sort of stand and place myself in a lot of situations and stuff and I try to settle with what I have and who I am and all that other new-age spirituality crap that I don't buy etc and think that change isn't necessary if I'm satisfied with what I have, which i'm not, which = back to square one

Some granny sweaters from my closet that I took for a question on tumblr. I don't know how I ended up with so many of these really.... most of them were gifts or hand-me-downs but I am very fond of big sweaters. Aside from being very warm, they also hide my fugly body shape very well!

Ahhh, I once read in an article about making smooth lines, that reducing the number of strokes in a drawing will make your work fluid and look confident--maybe, next time, try to draw something in as few lines as possible and see how it works out...!

I saw my sister for the first time since right before new years and she came home with these little hand-drawn booklets for the family as a belated Christmas present. They're such sweet little stories that relate to each of us in a certain way, one of the best presents I've ever gotten for sure ;;

Been busy looking for someone to hire me and playing some games in my spare time (which is quite a bit of time, considering how I'm still sick). I don't feel as motivated to work on Ranabastre because I'm a) sick and b) so stressed out over looking for a job that it takes away a lot of joy from drawing, I feel like I should be doing something more mind-numbing or more "productive" T3T

I really want to eat chilled lemon 愛玉....

But I did get some drawing done, not every day, but enough to keep me going still T^T

While I was in Taiwan I visited this café called Le Vol Du Petit Prince and had some delicious desserts and stole their napkins.

I think the hanging macarons are such a cute touch!!

I'd sort of hoped that it would be more Le Petit Prince themed than just in the name, but I think i was a little too optimistic on that front T3T. Guess I'll have to head back to Hakone for that kind of café.

My mom handed me this pack of six solid perfumes from Fragonard a few days ago. It's from their line called Porte Bonheur (good luck charm) and they are really cute and petit and smell really lovely, I might consider wearing these to bed because they have such a subtle charm no pun intended.

If anyone knows any quick cures for coughing colds, please magically cure me. I haven't had a cough for YEARS and it's giving my abs a good workout fighting the coughs laskdfkkkekwkkkk I wish I had a dribbly nose kind of cold instead.... of course I'd rather have no cold at all but :(

I just came back from a 2 week long trip to Taiwan, here are some photos from my stay! It was a really tiring trip because I did a lot and saw a lot of people in just the two weeks, but I really enjoyed it.

These photos are from KaoShiaon(sp?), at the 100+ years old villa my mom grew up in.

I learned from this plaque that I come from a bloodline of over 300 years old, having been in Taiwan since the 1700s. PURE TAIWANESE BLOOD RIGHT HERE

This is a photo of a cat using me as a perch after biting my arm until I bled in 8 different places. My sister took this photo of me as I slept LOL

Man I don't know about fading, tbh I never really look back at my old inked work (I never inked much in the past anyway) but it doesn't seem like anything has faded for me (yet). It's the first time I've been using a marker instead of ink and a brush so I HOPE IT DOESNT FADE D:

Ah! Up until my work in Adamo and Ranabastre I did all my inks with nibs and brush, so yes, I've had lots of experience with them! I find that I prefer microns and markers better now, though, I think it suits my working style a bit better than nibs, as nibs really show how hasty I am lololol /terrible

I don't know if it's the weather, or the nearing of a new year, but there's this anxiety that won't go away, a weird anticipation and want for something new and fresh and interesting. This probably explains why I keep buying new furniture and rearranging my room, lol. I love rearranging furniture! It's like building a new castle for myself every time, but it's like I am never quite happy with it. The fact that I really hate my curtains and that I have 3 huge windows in my room doesn't help very much.

Also, Ranabastre reached page 13 today! Can you guys believe I managed 13 pages of inked comics in 3 days! I'm pretty proud of that even if the quality of the art is pretty low, lol.

Lately I've been feeling that irritated, frustrated, depressing feeling that you get when you feel upset at your own work and how you wish you drew like everyone else. I'm not sure if there's ever a cure for this other than time tbh but I'm so tired of wishing that my style was more like so-and-so or whoever because I want to be unique and special and whatever too. But that's sort of one of my main goals in drawing a comic, to force myself to hone inking and comicking skills faster than just doodling little boys in my sketchbook and making the occasional doujinshi. Idk if it'll even work, lol.

These were the last photos of this desk and my room in this style before I went and got new furniture and tried to make my workspace for drawing-friendly and comfortable. I don't think Kafka notices the difference, though.

While moving contents from drawers to new drawers I unearthed a lot of crap I didn't know I owned, including three brand-new sketchbooks with amazingly softly textured paper. I might just hold some lame contests and send them off as prizes considering I will probably never get to use those books! I'll keep you all posted when I think of some good ideas *salute*

Today's doodle.
I am like a really shitty car.... I can start up with a roar but then I fail to go very far. Sometimes I feel really blessed that I draw really really REALLY fast because even if I'm dead tired (like right now), and an image floats to my mind, I can usually muster up enough strength to last just long enough to get it out. But once I do that I usually want to draw more, and then I feel frustrated that I just don't have the patience to keep going because I already wore out my drive to do anything.

ANYWAY HAVE SOME CAT!!! MOFUMOFUMOFU!

Quick paint scribble from today. I'm not sure how long it took, I always draw faster than I think I do.

I've replaced my gallery-type showcase thing with a tumblr because it's easier to manage than a site at the moment. The blog will act as a site until further notice I guess. So I put some buttons at the top that link to areas on my website before.

I tried setting different hotkeys! Unfortunately the "hotkey" that you can set is not the same as the alt-key shortcut :( The alt key lets you turn the eyedropper on and off by holding and letting go of the alt key but the "hotkey" setting is for switching over to the tool entirely or something weird. Either way, it did not wield the right results, BUT IT DOESNT MATTER NOW 8D

I picked up a new laptop today to replace my nearly decade old Dell.

It is much bigger, much heavier, much more Win7 and much more irritating than the Dell because I have been so spoiled by the perfection known as winXP. Anyway the new Canadian keyboards are no longer the standard US ones and are all French and stuff

So the right alt key is dedicated to typing french accents and other European-style whatevers... which means it NO LONGER FUNCTIONS AS THE EYEDROPPER SHORTCUT IN DRAWING PROGRAMS. I'll get used to it eventually but for now I'll just be frustrated and sad and grumpy at how irritating it is that I just conveniently happen to be left-handed and how hard it is to get used to having to stop each time i want to eyedrop. For those of you who paint, I think you know what a pain in the ass it is not to be able to eyedrop on the fly :(

Solution:

DRAW THINGS THAT DO NO REQUIRE THE EYEDROPPER TOOL

I also thought I'd mention that if you ask a question or something in comments, I think I'll do the reply-in-an-email type thing because I guess that's blogger's way of replying to commenters and not in a direct comment. If there's no e-mail, I'll answer the question in the next post! Hope that works for everyone. I am sad that I can't say thanks though.

This is my cat. His name is Kafka and he is exactly eight months old as of Monday. HE ALSO WEIGHS 11 LBS. I will blog about him periodically BECAUSE HE IS CUTE.

Here are also some pictures I made of him on some napkins when I was at the 11th Toronto International Art Fair.

And some recent RO commissions. Don't think I'll take more after the next batch, drawing for zeny feels silly when I have more things to worry about hahahha fsdkflsgl
